DESCRIPTION:
APW - Illinois, Bunn first run, serial #232, 15J, 18S, coin silver OF drum style Dueber recase with marking for retailer Bingham of Indianapolis, Indiana, acorn shaped pendant, offset gold hinges, "Springfield Watch Co." marked white enamel SS dial, KWKS, gilt mvt, s#232. An excellent very early example, the first run of Bunn production spanned serial numbers 201 to 300 and was finished between March and July of 1872 with this particular serial number having been finished in June. The case of this example is particularly attractive with its distinctive acorn shaped pendant which is found occasionally among cases made for retailer Wheelock Peet Bingham who operated in Indianapolis under the "Bingham" name until 1878 (following which Bingham operated in partnership as "Bingham, Walk & Mayhem" until early 1883, and for some years following this as "Bingham & Walk").
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good overall gilt tone with some mild haze in areas, some fine to micro-fine scratches with the most notable being at left and right perimeter of barrel bridge, semi-circular scratches and rub tight around case screw position, steelwork with few small bits of oxide, mvt with small amount of play within case; dial with perimeter hls at 3, small edge flakes under bezel at 11 and 12, very short small perimeter hls tight along edge at 11 and 1; fine hands, hour and minute with mild bends; case shows light wear, some scratches and shallow dings to rear, some denting to band at 9:30; bow pivots freely; thick glass crystal with small edge chips at 4 and 6:30, few short scratches.
